About Penelope

I'm a therapist and mindfulness expert with over 38 years of experience helping people get through life’s toughest transitions, like depression, anxiety, stress, grief, and the emotional impact of big changes, including ageing.

I work with women, and I bring something unique: deep clinical experience combined with a lived understanding of what it means when life doesn't go according to plan.

I don’t have all the answers. What I do have is clinical expertise built over almost forty years, plus my own experience of rebuilding when everything fell apart.

At 68, I've navigated chronic pain, financial hardship, depression, anxiety, chronic stress, and the challenge of letting go of an identity built on being the strong one. I know this territory professionally and personally, and I don't confuse the two.

I bring that same honesty to all my clinical work, whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, big life changes, or the specific challenges of ageing.

How I work

My approach blends psychology, mindfulness, spiritual contemplative practices, body-mind work, and proven therapeutic techniques. I don't offer quick fixes or empty reassurances. I offer honest, informed support for what's actually happening in your life.

I work with what’s real, not with what you wish was true.

I won’t ask you to just think positively or reframe everything. I help you be honest about where you are, understand what you’re experiencing, and work with it, not against it.

You might discover that you feel depressed and still have moments of connection. You could be anxious and still building strength. You might be grieving what’s lost while discovering what’s possible. I help you work with exactly what's there and rebuild from that.

This approach helps whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, stress, major life changes, or the unique challenges of ageing.

I offer both clinical expertise and real-life experience.

38 years of professional practice. And a real understanding of what it means to be broken down by life and have to rebuild it.

Who I work with

I work with women over 30, and I’m especially helpful for:

Women who want depth, not quick fixes: You’ve tried the apps, read the books, and things still aren’t changing. You don’t need more advice, you need something real. That’s what I offer.

Women navigating major transitions: Career changes, health issues, relationship breakups, retirement, ageing. Those times when the woman you thought you were no longer makes sense. I help you figure out what comes next.

Women tired of forced positivity: You don’t need to reframe everything. You need someone who can sit with you in the truth of where you are. That’s where we begin.

Women whose struggles have gone unnoticed: Depression and anxiety don't always look like sadness. Sometimes they’re experienced as exhaustion, irritability, or a flatness you can't explain. If you've been told you're fine when you know you're not, I’ll believe you.

Women over 55 navigating ageing honestly: Not the "ageing gracefully" version. The real version, where your body is changing, your roles are shifting, and no one wants to talk about what that actually feels like. I specialise in this because I'm living it too.

What we'll work on

Depending on your needs, we might explore:

Depression or anxiety: What triggers it, what keeps it going, and how to work with it rather than fight it.

Self-compassion: Treating yourself with kindness for the life you're actually living, not the one you think you should be living.

Identity: When who you've been no longer fits, whether because of retirement, health changes, role loss, or a transition that's asked more of you than you expected.

Grief and loss: For relationships that ended, health you've lost, roles that no longer exist, or the future you imagined that won't happen.

Chronic pain and difficult emotions: Learning to live alongside what you're experiencing rather than fighting it.

Purpose and meaning: When the things that used to give your life shape like work, roles, relationships are no longer available or no longer enough.

Relationship patterns: Understanding what keeps you stuck and finding different ways to relate to the people in your life.

My approach to therapy

Psychologically grounded, practically focused

I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), mindfulness-based interventions, compassion-focused therapy, and existential psychology. But I use what works for you, not just what the textbooks say.

Collaborative, not prescriptive

You're the expert on your life. I bring clinical expertise and tools. We work together to find what is best for YOU.

Honest, not harsh

I'm warm and compassionate, but I won't let you hide from the truth. I'm direct and sometimes I’m funny because that's what makes the hard stuff bearable.

Focused on what works
Theory is only useful if it helps you live better. We focus on what works in your real life.

My psychology background

I was first registered as a clinical psychologist over 38 years ago, with a Master’s degree that included extensive supervised practical experience with diverse people and issues.

I ran a private practice for many years before moving to online work, and I’m now returning to formal clinical practice with a focus on the psychology of ageing and mind-body integration.

I take an integrative approach, tailoring therapy to what works for you instead of using a one-size-fits-all method.

The therapeutic relationship

I see therapy as a collaborative relationship built on trust, honesty, and mutual respect.

My goal is to create a space where you can:

  • Tell the truth about where you are without judgement or pressure to "fix" yourself

  • Explore what you're experiencing with curiosity instead of shame

  • Develop self-compassion for the life you're actually living, not the one you think you "should" be living

  • Build the ability to hold both struggle and possibility at the same time

  • Discover your own path forward instead of being told what to do.

I consider it a privilege to work with you. I approach every session with deep respect for what it takes to reach out and genuine curiosity about who you are and what matters to you.
